Oftentimes, a new homeowner will be caught up in the whirlwind of things to do and will either forget to rekey at all, meaning anyone including the neighbor’s uncle’s dog could have a key, or they might try and seek out the “bottom dollar” handyman or locksmith to handle this very important task of securing their new home.
This is a seemingly minute detail that would usually be overlooked by a handyman or the “Do It Yourself” type of person. And the cheapest locksmith will be in and out of there without paying much attention to the structural integrity of your door openings, unless you ask them to.
It’s also important to note that an alarm system or security cameras do not actually prevent the foot from breaking down the door. They are simply a deterrent. Structural integrity in the form of good locks, strike plates, and doors are what actually keeps them out, and buys you the time you need in this situation to either call for help or get prepared to defend yourself.
